Sign is a charity which caters for the health needs of deaf people. When they asked us to design a brochure outlining their services, they had very little in the way of marketing material and imagery as well as brand guidelines, and a frugal budget.
We firstly set about to create some imagery which we could use throughout this project and future material. We suggested that, partly due to budget and partly to create an interesting result, we would combine photography of real service-users with illustration.
We hired a competent but inexpensive photographer and directed the photo shoot of service-users against a plain white backdrop, later combining with illustration techniques in Illustrator.
The result was extremely effective. It meant that the subjects could be placed within an imaginary situation or environment and feelings and emotions could be expressed in an interesting and engaging way.
We put the brochure together in a compact A5 pack with individual cards providing information for each of their services and projects, as well as allowing room for an annual review.
